An HPCLab employee as part of a delegation from National Research Nuclear University MEPhI visited Hainan University

From March 6 to 10, a visit of the NRNU MEPhI delegation to Hainan University(Haikou, Hainan Island, China) took place.

Members of the delegation:

  • Vice-Rector Dmitry Savkin,
  • Associate Professor Dyumin Alexander,
  • Head of the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Mikhail Rovnyagin,
  • International Relations Manager Anna Yunyushkina.

Members of the delegation discussed with their Chinese colleagues the potential possibility of organizing a joint undergraduate educational program for Chinese students in an IT field.

Particular attention was paid to the compliance of the program with the educational standards of the two countries. So, for example, in the PRC, courses on the fundamentals of Marxism and Socialism with Chinese characteristics are mandatory, in Russia - a course on the Fundamentals of Russian Statehood and Russian History. To obtain two degrees, students must complete both of these academic cycles.

The list of professional disciplines in the IT field is largely similar, however, at MEPhI traditionally more attention is paid to the fundamental principles of organizing computers and networks, and at Hainan University, a feature is a flexible training plan with the ability to separate theory and practice in professional disciplines over time.

These and many other issues of drawing up a joint program were discussed over three days and will continue to be worked out remotely. If the outcome is successful, employees and students of the two countries will have a real opportunity to exchange experience in organizing the educational process, which will be beneficial and accelerate the development of Russia and China.
