Archipelago 2024
The design and educational intensive “Archipelago” annually becomes the main event of the year for the launch of new markets, initiatives and industries. This year, the focus of the Archipelago participants (held from July 8 to 21 in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk) was on topics related to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).
Composition of the delegation of NRNU MEPhI:
- Head of the Internal Communications Department Svetlana Aleksandrovna Ganat,
- Head of the Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Laboratory (HPCLab) Mikhail Mikhailovich Rovnyagin.
Representatives of the nuclear university held a number of meetings with UAS developers and other specialized organizations, where they discussed experience in the design and operation of drones, as well as issues of potential cooperation in this area.
MEPhI representatives also took part in the AI for Dronesphere Laboratory. The work of the Laboratory consisted of daily meetings of participants and discussions on various topics related to the use of on-board equipment for UAS control, communications between UAS, satellites, ground stations, ATM (in particular, trusted modules for monitoring the compliance of a real drone flight with air traffic management rules) . Much attention was paid to the component base of the UAS and the “coordination” of research projects for its development with the technological map for the development of imported electronic components in Russia (for example, the use of domestic engines, controllers and on-board computers).
It is also worth noting the excellent weather in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on the main days of UAS testing at the Pushisty airfield. Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk itself has also changed significantly over the past 2 years and, in addition to a world-class ski resort, has a developed public transport infrastructure and a new international airport terminal.
